As visitors using the new Virginia Dare Bridge arrive on the Outer
Banks, the first structure they see is the Outer Banks Visitor Center.
Waldt Construction built the Visitor Center, the Rest Area building
and various site features including maintenance buildings, picnic
shelters and the architectural concrete patio and seat walls. |

| The Visitor Center
is a 9,000 sq. ft. building that features a welcome center that includes
an exposed 40' tall Glue Lam structure, a maple floor, tongue and
groove wood ceiling and birch wood paneling on the walls. The remainder
of the structure is an office for the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau.
The Rest Area is a 2,000 sq. ft. facility that includes ceramic floors,
cedar siding and a cedar shingle roof. |

The First Flight Centennial Pavilion will serve as the host facility
for the 100th Anniversary of Flight Celebration on December 17, 2003.
This 20,000 sq. ft. structure will house an exhibit hall and a 1,000
seat auditorium for the First Flight celebration. |
| The structure
includes a concrete foundation and a structural aluminum frame with
a Tedlar structural fabric as the outer skin. The auditorium features
a 60' clear width aircraft hangar door to enable historic aircraft
to be displayed. Waldt Construction is the general contractor as well
as providing design support during the construction phase, including
the HVAC system on a design build basis. |

The Wright Brothers Memorial Pilot Facility is the first permanent
structure to be completed at the Wright Brothers Memorial associated
with the First Flight Centennial. This facility will serve the pilots
using the airport by providing state-of-the-art satellite linked weather
information at destination airports as well as air charts to provide
trip-planning capability. This facility includes natural wood finishes,
ceramic tile and exposed wood trusses. |
