As visitors using the new Virginia Dare Bridge arrive on the Outer Banks, the first structure they see is the Outer Banks Visitor Center. Waldt Construction built the Visitor Center, the Rest Area building and various site features including maintenance buildings, picnic shelters and the architectural concrete patio and seat walls.
The Visitor Center is a 9,000 sq. ft. building that features a welcome center that includes an exposed 40' tall Glue Lam structure, a maple floor, tongue and groove wood ceiling and birch wood paneling on the walls. The remainder of the structure is an office for the Outer Banks Visitor Bureau. The Rest Area is a 2,000 sq. ft. facility that includes ceramic floors, cedar siding and a cedar shingle roof.

In Progress

The First Flight Centennial Pavilion will serve as the host facility for the 100th Anniversary of Flight Celebration on December 17, 2003. This 20,000 sq. ft. structure will house an exhibit hall and a 1,000 seat auditorium for the First Flight celebration.
The structure includes a concrete foundation and a structural aluminum frame with a Tedlar structural fabric as the outer skin. The auditorium features a 60' clear width aircraft hangar door to enable historic aircraft to be displayed. Waldt Construction is the general contractor as well as providing design support during the construction phase, including the HVAC system on a design build basis.
